Virtually Linked has developed a model within
More accurate models could probably be produced and may already exist using different modeling systems however, Virtually Linked have already created a model and the nature of Second Life means that this model is very easy to access by the public. In fact members of the public already visit it every day. For no cost members of the public (using their avatar) can walk around the model or even be taken on conducted tours. This makes this particular model unique and extremely powerful for a project enabling very public access and a high level of public involvement and engagement. Not only can Londoners access the model directly, so can anyone with a reasonable computer and Internet access from anywhere in the world.
To collect the data for the whole area currently modelled by second life london so far would be a very large project and will take a considerable amount of time. so my initial thought was to create a prototype of Harrods.
ReplyDeleteAfter my initial meeting with Julius Sowu (Virtually Linked) and Alan Hudson (Senior Lecturer) on 2nd November. Certain issues were raised in creating a prototype of Harrods, such as getting information will be difficult because they may not like their building being potrayed 'environmentaly unfriendly'. To address this issue, I decided to use the Prince of Wales Pub as a base to begin the task of creating a working model with a view of expanding it to neighbouring buildings.
ReplyDeleteI have been researching alot and I have decided to approach the project my measuring the 'carbon footprint' of Prince of Wales and look at ways of reducing it. Carbon footprint is the measure of the impact that human activities have on the environment interms of the amount of greenhouse gases produced, measured in units of corbonmonoxide.
ReplyDeleteAll the energy the Prince of Wales uses comes from the earth. The electricity and heat is made using the earth resources like oil, coal and gas. These are called 'fossil fuels' because the are formed under the earth. The problem is 'fossil fuels' cause pollution and can not be replaced once we use them they're gone forever.
ReplyDeleteWhat methods are you following (intend to follow) to ensure you can get data from your client's use of the your design in Virtual Linked?
ReplyDeleteAlso can you comment (as secondary data) on any metrics that Virtual Linked has already conducted in world?
Hmm - I thought I'd already put a post on here??
ReplyDeleteIt would be good to see your thoughts and ideas about how you are going to present the information in SL and how users will interact with it.
Nigel, I will use a script that writes down on touch 'visitor counter in it' if I want to know how many people visited my design. I have the script but I am just reading on how to incorporate it to my design.
ReplyDeleteIn 1960’s “Richard Backminster Fuller” used to ask his audience of engineers “How much does your building weigh” His interest was in efficient designs that used less natural resources no nobody could ever answer his question. In the 1980’s in the wake of the 1981 OPEC oil embargo, another famous American engineer, Fed Dublin asked his audience of architects and engineers “How will your building perform if it has to run on half as much energy as you expect it to need. There is an established link between man made emission from burning fossil fuels and climate change. The 21 century question is how much carbon dioxide does your building emits.
